Up and Running

This whole t-shirt business isn't as easy as, well, I thought it might be. It's been a lot of long days, inhaling unhealthy amounts of ink fumes (thankfully they're water-based), going insane with trying to keep the prints straight one second and then trying to sort out the dizzying array of social media sites the Honeybadger has jumped into the next. All of this while working two other jobs to "pay the bills." While this has occasionally led Mat (Kingpin of Honeybadger) and I to drink to excess, it all became worth it yesterday with the opening of our main storefront: Honeybadgershirts.com and one hell of a party (and yes, more drinking to excess).

For those who missed it, yesterday's official launch party featured copious amounts of food and drink, hours of beer pong, intense dance sessions by Kelly Shell and hilarious watching of youtube videos. All in all a successful evening. I won't go into detail, but there was a moment last night, when we were all sandwiched between the two Finnish dwarves and the Maori tribesmen, where I thought I could really do this for the rest of my life.

(check Facebook for some pics)

Of course then I woke up half dead and had to go to work at 8, and thought that I wouldn't mind ending my life a little prematurely. But the point is, this whole t-shirt gig, though challenging at times, is a pretty sweet deal.

As Mat and I continue to put in far more hours than can be considered healthy, I'm optimistic that Honeybadger really could go somewhere. But no matter what, creating something, anything, worth sharing with the world is our main goal. As the late and venerable Kurt Vonnegut said, "practicing any art--be it painting, music, dance, literature, or [making t-shirts]--is not a way to make money or to become famous. It's a way to make your soul grow, so you should do it anyway." Of course, we certainly won't turn down money or fame. As the not quite so venerable Kanye West sings, "La, la, la, la wait til I get my money right." But for now, being able to share our shirts with good friends (and hopefully some good strangers in the near future) is more than enough to make everything worth it.

Cheers,

Holy Shit

I'm blogging. Pigs are flying. It's a cold day in hell. Cliches are running rampant. Woohoo! Anyway, the Honeybadger site is coming soon, and then we'll have lots to talk about. Stay tuned.
